Prices vary widely: a basic cosmetic/simple below-knee limb is a few thousand RMB, while functional myoelectric arms or smart knees run tens of thousands. Some regions' disability assistive-device subsidies, work injury insurance, or civil-affairs aid can cover part of the cost—check your local policy.

Consult your local disabled persons' federation or designated center about fitting and subsidies, and keep receipts.

A myoelectric prosthesis picks up muscle signals via skin electrodes, recognizes intent through a microprocessor, and drives motors for grip/rotation. Smart bionic limbs add sensors and multi-axial joints to mimic natural gait and active knee flexion, improving stairs and uneven terrain.

They are more capable but need charging, fear water, and cost more.

Generally, fitting begins once the residual limb has healed and swelling has subsided—usually 1–3 months after surgery for the socket, though recovery varies. A temporary prosthesis (shrinker sock / temporary socket) can control swelling early on; the definitive prosthesis is fitted once the limb stabilizes (typically 3–6 months).

Your prosthetist will decide based on skin condition and weight-bearing tolerance—do not force early loading.

Choosing a prosthesis depends on the amputation level, residual limb condition, age and activity needs. Have a prosthetic specialist assess your residual limb and gait first, then select components (socket, joints, foot) based on your daily activity, and fine-tune the fit. Don’t focus only on price—fitting and after-sales matter just as much.

Usually apply at your local community/street office, get a disability assessment at a designated hospital, then the federation issues the certificate. With it, you can request an assistive-device fitting assessment at designated centers and receive subsidies per the local catalog.

3D printing suits sockets, cosmetic covers, and light components—cutting lead time and cost with personalization. But load-bearing joints and hydraulic/myoelectric systems still rely on certified industrial parts.

It's reliable for transitional, cosmetic, or light use; for main load-bearing parts, use certified products fitted by a prosthetist.

Follow “little and often, step by step”: start with 15–30 minutes a day and gradually increase, avoiding long loads early on.

Check the socket interior for debris before wearing; after donning, watch circulation at the limb end and remove immediately if it turns purple or painful. Focus on standing and slow walking for the first weeks—no running or jumping. Return to your prosthetist for socket adjustments.

Sports limbs are sport-specific: running blades (J-shaped carbon-energy feet) for sprinting/jogging; waterproof feet for swimming; multi-axial knees for trail/mountain stability.

They boost performance but may be less comfortable for daily walking, so they're often a second limb used alongside the daily one. Choose with a sports-rehab prosthetist.

Swelling is often from poor circulation or a poor-fitting socket; elevating the limb, compression wrapping, and residual-limb exercises help. Persistent pain/swelling needs a socket adjustment.

For blisters, keep the area clean and dry—don't pop small ones; for broken skin, clean with saline, apply recommended ointment, and pause wearing until healed. Daily cleanliness of limb and socket plus proper socks prevent most issues.

From residual limb healing to final wearing, it usually takes weeks to months: the limb shrinks and shapes after surgery, then molding, socket fabrication and training follow, with regular check-ups.

Wipe the socket daily with a soft cloth and mild cleaner, then air-dry away from heat/sunlight; change limb socks daily. Dust metal/joint parts and apply a little lubricant to moving joints as advised.

Avoid corrosive liquids. Get a full check-up every 3–6 months for socket fit, joint wear, and loose connectors.

Clean the socket and skin-contact surfaces daily and keep them dry; regularly check joints, hinges and foot wear; contact your prosthetist for unusual noise, looseness or skin redness. Avoid prolonged sun, soaking or impact.

Most standard prostheses are not waterproof—remove them before showering/swimming to avoid water in the socket or corrosion of joints/electronics. For water activities, use a waterproof socket or cover and dry thoroughly afterward.

Myoelectric/smart limbs are especially water-sensitive; consult your prosthetist and follow the instructions.

Costs vary widely—from basic to high-end smart knees or myoelectric hands, differing by several to dozens of times depending on component grade, materials and customization. Define your needs first, then compare quotes with clear warranty and after-sales.

Sockets typically need replacement every 1–3 years as the limb changes; components (feet, knees) last about 3–5 years, shorter with heavy use or weight change.

Children/teens may need annual socket adjustments. Pain, noises, or a loose socket are signs to service or replace.
