"Practice your walking posture again, and no one will know that you have been amputated even if you are walking." Zeng Shoulian, wearing a white coat, encouraged Mi Dong.

In a car accident, sophomore Zeng Shoulian had her left leg amputated. Due to her optimistic attitude, one month after being fitted with a prosthetic limb, she was hired as a staff member of the Guangxi Rehabilitation Center that installed the prosthetic limb. The center hopes that through her inspiration, more people can regain their confidence in life. She also used her own personal experience to tell the disabled people: Some people think that life is bleak, not because there is no sunshine in her life, but because she closes all the sunny windows. Amputee boy regains confidence

"At first, Mi Dong was in a very low mood, thanks to Xiao Zeng." In the training room, Mi Dong's mother said gratefully as she watched Mi Dong stand up again.

On May 17, five days after the earthquake, Mi Dong was rescued by the People's Liberation Army. It took him two days to rescue him. His right leg had lost its function due to being pressed in the rubble for a long time. Soon, Mi Dong had amputation surgery at a hospital in Sichuan.

Seeing the empty trouser legs, Mi Dong had been depressed. Even after coming to Liuzhou, his mood did not improve. When his mother talks to him, he just responds politely. This situation was not relieved until Xiao Zeng appeared.

In early June, Xiao Zeng went to Liuzhou Workers' Hospital for a physical examination. When the leader of the rehabilitation center learned about Mi Dong's condition, he took her to the love ward to visit Mi Dong.

"It's okay. My leg is broken. I can install a prosthetic limb." Seeing Mi Dong lowering his head, Xiao Zeng comforted him.

"Yeah." Mi Dong has heard countless such enlightenments.

"Isn't it great to be like me now?" Xiao Zeng sat down and took off his prosthetic limbs in front of everyone in the ward. Only then did everyone notice that the pretty little girl in front of them was actually a disabled person.

Xiao Zeng said while "demonstrating", then she put on the prosthesis and walked around the ward. If they hadn't seen the scene just now, no one would have known that she had a prosthetic leg.

I also experienced 3 years of confusion

"I was once as confused as Mi Dong. It wasn't until I got a prosthetic leg that life felt wonderful again!" After the car accident, Zeng Shoulian also felt confused. Her period of confusion lasted three full years longer than Midong's.

In 2001, Zeng Shoulian was admitted to Guangdong University of Foreign Studies from Guiping, Guangxi. Like most college students, Zeng Shoulian cherished a beautiful vision for the future.

In August 2002, Xiao Zeng, who had just returned from summer vacation, went to play at a classmate's house. At 9 p.m., she returned to the dormitory alone.

Because she had a low fever, she walked in a daze. When she was crossing the road, she only felt that she was hit, and then she lost consciousness. When she woke up, she was already lying on the operating table. After the operation, she learned that she had been hit by a truck. The driver escaped and she was taken to the hospital by a kind security guard. The driver responsible for the accident has not been found so far.

After the operation, the doctor regretfully told his family that Xiao Zeng's life had been saved, but he had to amputate his left leg below the knee. When the doctor told this cruel fact, Xiao Zeng begged the doctor: "Don't amputate my leg!" In the end, the doctor respected her request and performed leg-saving treatment, expecting a miracle to happen.

From a proud man to a disabled person, Xiao Zeng felt deeply inferior. Gradually, she became withdrawn and sensitive, and even refused to speak a word to anyone for a day. Worried that her classmates would treat her differently, Xiao Zeng asked her family to go through the formalities of suspending her studies, and she returned to Guiping, Guangxi.

Xiao Zeng lives in a wheelchair all day long, but because her legs cannot be exercised, her left leg also begins to atrophy.

Giving up can make a better start

"Since it's useless, don't let it go. Life is still beautiful, and you are the eldest in the family. You have to set a good example for your two younger brothers!" Seeing her depressed and unhappy, the family was worried. Her aunt encouraged her to give up her stump and get a prosthetic limb.

In May 2005, with the support of his family, Xiao Zeng decided to give up and had his first surgery. After the operation, Xiao Zeng couldn't help crying when he saw that his ugly left leg was gone and he touched his empty trouser leg.

In July 2005, Xiao Zeng came to the Guangxi Prosthetic Rehabilitation Center to have a prosthetic limb installed. After getting the prosthesis, she learned that as long as she practiced hard, she could walk like a normal person. The bright sunshine hit her face again, and since then, she practiced walking in the training room of the rehabilitation center every day.

All the hard work was in vain. One month later, when Xiao Zeng returned home smoothly, everyone praised him: "He is just like a normal person."

"Actually, installing a prosthetic limb is not as scary as I thought! If I could get rid of the psychological burden earlier, I would have installed the prosthetic limb earlier and continue my studies." Looking back on the past, Xiao Zeng regrets that it was too late to make the decision to amputate the limb.

My own experience comforts patients

Before amputation, many patients have concerns like Xiao Zeng. The Guangxi Prosthetic Rehabilitation Center has been looking for a worker to do ideological work for patients who are about to have their limbs amputated or who are about to install prosthetic limbs, so as to relieve their mental burden.

Through treatment in the rehabilitation center, the center learned that this friendly girl was not only kind, but also very patient, and unanimously believed that Xiao Zeng was the most suitable candidate. Being able to use his own experience to help more people avoid detours, Xiao Zeng believed that this job was very meaningful. The two parties hit it off, and Xiao Zeng became a worker at the Guangxi Prosthetic Rehabilitation Center.

On a weekend not long after I started working, a 20-year-old girl suddenly ran to the center to "ask for help."

The girl said that her father was about to undergo amputation surgery. The father, who had always been the mainstay of the family, was very depressed. He was worried that after losing a leg, the whole family would be as isolated and helpless as he was. The girl hopes to find a staff member to persuade her father.

Because the request was urgent and without asking the leader for instructions, Xiao Zeng came to the hospital ward with the girl. Seeing the girl's father on the hospital bed, she felt as if she were seeing herself back then. After a few words of greeting, she took off her "left leg", then put it on easily, and walked around the ward. After her demonstration, the girl's father dispelled his worries and felt much more relaxed.

A few months later, the girl's father came to the rehabilitation center to install a prosthetic limb, and the first person he looked for was Xiao Zeng.

Facing strange eyes calmly

Many people are unwilling to undergo amputation surgery, and it is difficult to do ideological work. Once Xiao Zeng came, everything was resolved.

"I don't have any panacea. I just tell the other person my experience and hope that the other person can make a rational choice."

"Is showing your prosthetic limbs to others again and again adding salt to your own wounds?" the reporter asked.

"I was a little uncomfortable at first, but through me, many people can accept the reality, and I also feel a sense of accomplishment." Even if she is not in the office, Xiao Zeng is not shy about showing off her left leg.

"Every time I buy shoes, the waiter always encourages me to try two shoes together. When I see the shoes I like, I am very eager to try them together. I will tell the waiter that I have a prosthetic limb. After the waiter is mentally prepared, I take off my left leg and put on the shoes." Xiao Zeng has become accustomed to other people's strange looks. On the contrary, her ease makes many curious people feel embarrassed.

Convenient sports shoes, delicate flat shoes, and beautiful high heels, Xiao Zeng has many types of shoes in his shoe cabinet.

"A beautiful face will make people confident, and the prosthetic limb will be more light-footed because it is matched with a pair of beautiful shoes." Xiao Zeng said that you can also wear high heels or skirts with prosthetic limbs.

In addition to work and study, Xiao Zeng also tries to make his life as colorful as possible. In addition to outings, she also likes sports, and table tennis is her strong point. Colleagues never thought of her as disabled.

Happiness and love come unexpectedly

"Xiao Zeng is getting married soon!" At the Guangxi Orthopedic Rehabilitation Center, the news spread like wildfire.
